International Certificate of Christian Education (ICCE)

What is the ICCE?

The International Certificate of Christian Education is a Christian alternative to secular qualifications and is recognised by employers and universities in the UK and elsewhere. The UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) UK Qualifications Handbook includes details of the ICCE/ICCE.

Originally known as the National Christian Schools Certificate, the change of name reflects the international nature of the award and the status it has achieved in several Commonwealth countries.

The certificate comes as part of a Record of Achievement for Christian Home Schools, which comes in a smart red folder. This includes an Explanation of the ACE programme as well as space for Other Achievements and Experiences, and a Personal Statement by the pupil, as well as the Certificates.

The ICCE

Providing formal recognition of the work completed by children on the ACE curriculum, four levels of certificate are offered by the ICCE?

ICCE Basic Certificate. This replaces the NCSC Foundation Certificate, and is designed for the less able pupil.

ICCE Foundation Certificate. This is for the lower achieving pupils. It requires 8 credits above PACE 1084.

ICCE General Certificate. This replaces the NCSC Level 1 and is for pupils of average ability. It requires 16 credits above PACE 1084 and includes three options chosen from an approved list.

ICCE Intermediate Certificate. This replaces the NCSC Level 2 and is designed for above average pupils. It requires a total of 23 credits above PACE 1084 including two further options from the approved list.

ICCE Advanced Certificate. This replaces the NCSC Level 3 and Honours certificates and is designed for the most able pupils. It requires a total of 30 credits above PACE 1084 including further options. Courses for this certificate can be chosen from an approved list to suit the needs and talents of individual pupils.

The Basic Certificate is of a slightly higher standard than the old NCSC Foundation Certificate and a “leaving certificate” can be issued from TEACH to those students who do not reach the requirements for the Basic Certificate.

Further details of the ICCE are in the ICCE Handbook, which is available from the office at TEACH Asia and is updated on a yearly basis and it is able in the download page.

An up-to-date list of all colleges and universities which have accepted ICCE students is in the latest ICCE Handbook.

Registering on the International Certificate of Christian Education

You should register your child with the ICCE Board (not CEE or TEACH) once PACE 1085 is reached in at least one core subject. However, it would be prudent to get to know what is involved well before your child reaches this level.

IMPORTANT - it is essential that parents maintain up-to-date and accurate records for each of their children registered for the certificate. These records (from PACE 1085 in all core curriculum subjects) must be kept on the appropriate ACE forms (i.e. the Supervisor’s Progress Card). In addition, the actual PACE tests of children registered on the ICCE must be sent in to the ICCE board at the end of each academic level. Please be warned, without these records, an ICCE certificate cannot be issued.

You should note that there is a separate Registration Fee for the International Certificate of Christian Education.
